Austria's highest botanical garden, Innsbruck's Alpine Garden, is well worth a visit. The 2-hectare area is only a 5-minute walk from the top station and easily accessible.
The Alpine Garden exhibits over 400 different kinds of plants, most of which are protected by law. The park is run and maintained by the Innsbruck University which also installed a research station here.
A loop trail winds its way through the garden and provides interesting information on plants. Especially impressive are the different types of gentian, and the best known of Alpine flowers, the edelweiss.
